A shopfront fabrication brief does not need to be a complete technical drawing package to start a discussion. It does need to explain the location and the goal. An attractive reference from another project communicates taste, but it does not show your facade width, glazing arrangement or elements to retain.
Describe the project in one paragraph
State the business type, city, whether the site is new or existing, and why you are making the request. Do you need a name and sign only, or coordination of cladding, logo signage and window graphics? If the scope is undecided, explain the problem rather than choosing services at random.
Mention any ongoing interior or exterior work that may affect the facade. This helps identify which parties will need to coordinate details later.
Take photos that answer practical questions
- A straight-on view covering the full facade.
- A view from the visitor’s direction of approach.
- A close view of the sign position and existing cladding.
- The entrance, glazing and attached elements.
- An evening view if lighting is important to the request.
Take photos from safe locations and avoid filters that alter facade colours. People or private information are unnecessary; the aim is to show the site boundaries and elements to be reviewed.
Share available measurements as preliminary information

Provide approximate width and height, distinguishing the sign area from the entire facade. State the units clearly and add a simple sketch where useful. If you cannot measure the area, send photos and ask how the information can be completed.
Initial dimensions support discussion and estimation. Final dimensions are reviewed before fabrication. Do not try to derive an exact measurement from a reference photograph alone.
Confirm the identity and work boundaries
Attach the logo, approved business name in both languages and colour references if available. List what you want to change and what you hope to retain after review. Mention removal of old elements, delivery or installation so that these items can be explicitly discussed in the quotation.
Include any opening date and explain whether it is fixed. Timing needs review against the scope, site readiness and design approval; mentioning a date does not itself confirm delivery by that date.
A message template to complete
We would like to prepare/update our shopfront in [city]. The site is [new/existing], and the initial request covers [elements]. The approximate area is [width × height and units]. We would like to retain [elements] and discuss replacing [elements]. Site photos and logo artwork are attached. Our preferred date is [date]. Please clarify the design, fabrication, delivery and installation included in the quotation.
Shopfront fabrication brief: information that speeds up review
A shopfront fabrication request is easier to review when it includes a clear front view, side details, approximate measurements, brand files and a list of elements to retain or replace. Measurements can be preliminary, but label them clearly.
- Attach complete photos of the facade, entrance and sides.
- Provide approximate width and height for each area.
- Send approved logos, typefaces and colour references.
- State site hours and any access or installation limits.
Organised information reduces initial questions and helps define the site visit, project scope and quotation items.
When completing your review of shopfront fabrication brief, collect decisions, dimensions and approvals in one dated file. Share the same version with the designer, fabricator and site contact, and record later changes clearly. This gives the project a reviewable basis and prevents older information or artwork from returning during production.
